IN DETAIL: THE MOST WELL-KNOWN GERMAN ROCK-BANDS

 🎸  Die Toten Hosen

The Toten Hosen have been making music together for almost 40 years. They are all from Düsseldorf, the group was founded in 1982. At that time they belonged to the typical punk rock bands. Even if it's a little less punky and more pop-rocky today, elements of punkrock can still be found in the songs. They have now sold more than 23 million records, which makes Die Toten Hosen one of the most successful bands in Germany.

🎸  Die Ärzte

They have been making the music scene unsafe since the 80s: Die Ärzte – or as they call themselves: the best band in the world. Since 1993 the band consists of the three members Farin Urlaub, Bela B and Rodrigo González. Musically, the music combines punk rock and pop. The lyrics are humorous and ironic on the one hand, but there are also serious themes among them on the other. All three band members are also often on the road solo, with their own projects.

🎸  Scorpions

The Scorpions is a German hard rock band from Hanover. They have been making music since 1965 and are still active today. They had a tremendous impact on the music scene. Countless bands have covered songs by the Scorpions over the years, including the Smashing Pumpkins, Green Day, Korn, System Of A Down and Queensryche. The song “Rock You Like A Hurricane” alone has been covered more than 150 times by different musicians. The Scorpions stand for hard power chord guitar riffs in combination with the melodic solos of Matthias Jabs and the high, expressive voice of singer Klaus Meine. The Scorpions' most successful songs include "Rock You Like a Hurricane", "Still Loving You" and "Wind of Change".

🎸  Sportfreunde Stiller

The Sportfreunde Stiller, or simply called the “Sporti(e)s” for short, are a German indie rock group from near Munich. The boys have been making music together since 1996 and are conquering the music landscape in Germany. The group's first album, Just Like Real Madrid, was released in 2000.

🎸  Beatsteaks

The Beatsteaks come from Berlin and have been making music together since 1995. They stand for German alternative rock/punk rock. In 2004, the Beatsteaks managed to get more and more people hearing them with the album "Smack Smash" and their second single release "I Don't Care as Long as You Sing". Since then things have gone uphill. And that, although singer Arnim says “My lyrics are often nonsense. We are very amateurish, because being amateurish is also good.” – they just want to throw a great party.
